Both work well with IMAP and both are open source and free to use.
#TELUS EMAIL SETUP FOR OUTLOOK WINDOWS#
I use Thunderbird on Windows and FairEmail on Android. There is no synchronization of individual emails between client and server. Keeping or deleting emails on the POP server is usually configurable but it applies to all emails. POP may download and delete all emails on the server making then unavailable on other clients. POP will not synchronize email changes between server and client so it results in duplication of effort on other clients. IMAP or webmail will allow synchronized managing and reading of emails on all IMAP clients.

It may need to be enabled in the settings and some email services want money to do so. IMAP should work with most email services. That's probably as much to sell advertising as it is to improve security. As far as I can see, security settings on Gmail default to options that force most users to use webmail. It typically selects the correct settings automatically and they work without issue, provided the Gmail account is configured to work with IMAP and less trusted connections. I've never had an issue configuring Thunderbird with Gmail. IMAP may require different ports depending on the protocols used. I have never had a problem with Thunderbird since I started using email, and it is regularly being updated.Ĭlick to expand.POP and IMAP require different ports. It did keep warning me that I had a security issue because of this "app". I was finally able to get in and change the setting in Google to a lower level of security and then it worked.
#TELUS EMAIL SETUP FOR OUTLOOK PASSWORD#
I finally discovered that Google was blocking Thunderbird, which is why my password failed. I had to go to redo my password and then using a cell phone to get a number. I discovered this after too many attempts using my Telus/Google address and it shut that down as well. I did finally manage to get it working, it turned out that the fellow helping me didn't know why Thunderbird wouldn't accept a password, and in trying to set it up we over used the password to set up Google and it stopped letting me in. I do have a separate gmail address which I don't use much except for advertising directed my way such as Costco. I have used Thunderbird and it's earlier versions since it started, my computer skills are not the best, and would like to retain that method of getting and sending email.

The problem was I wasn't given someone who knew anything about Thunderbird for email when I was transferred and he kept blaming Thunderbird when the problem was Google, I accidentally discovered this when I manually went to check my telus email using the web and there was an email asking me it I would accept this app, and I looked further and discovered I had to get into Google and lower the security rating to use the app. I have a lot of friends in the written science fiction community and it would be a nightmare to try and get them all to a new email address. Telus is shutting down it's email system for all its customers and transferring it to Google, allowing us to retain our telus email addresses.
